If Canada has a genuine living hero in the person of Henry Morgentaler, so too does the United States of America in Seymour Hersh, the man who broke the story of the My Lai massacre in 1969, and who has been doggedly making the title, reporter, an honourable one ever since.

A couple of years ago, I was roundly mocked on one of LJ's political discussion communities for suggesting the Bush II regime had it in for Iran and that we might see yet another war in the Middle East sooner rather than later. The most significant single source for my analysis was Seymour Hersh and time has certainly proven I was no Chicken Little.

Hersh's latest, published in this week's New Yorker (a magazine which has been underwriting Hersh's work for - as far as I know - decades, and deserves many kudos for it) and republished, along with two video interviews, deserves the attention of anyone paying attention to the state of the world in general and to US international relations in particular. You Yanks especially owe it to yourselves to pay attention to this man if you are concerned about the direction towards which your country is headed.

If you remember the Israeli attack on Syria back on September 6th of last year, and maybe wondered why so little came of it or even was said about it, read this article for probably as much information as will become publicly known for years. Yes, Hersh's journalism relies a great deal on un-named sources, but he has a 40-year track-record. (And while you're at it, you should subscribe to truthout.org. It's an excellent resource and it's free, though they will ask you for donations.)
