It's Nuit Blanche here in Toronto and I am trying to convince myself to get out and see what's up, or else head over to Lee's Palace for the Mudmen (who dat? A band; beyond that, I know nothing). But the chill air wafting through my office window, and the autumnal sounds of wind and rain, conspire to keep me inside, slaved to my computer like some pale, basement dwelling troll.

We'll see.

Earlier this week, I did get out - meeting one of you in fact, a lovely and intelligent woman with whom I shared a few drinks and was delighted to start to get to know.

After, she did say that, in person, I was not much as I appear to be online. And so, in keeping with yesterday's break with Young Geoffrey's journal-istic traditions, a poll (to be fair, those of you who have met me should refrain from voting).

[Poll #834000]

All right. Time to get myself a life.

Can I answer on Wednesday?

Yes

In fact, I wonder if our mutual presence at the meeting was enough to disqualify from answering now. Your call.

you should definitely go out to see mudmen at Lee's Palace. Not that I'm biased or anything.

*shifty eyes*

Strangely enough, I think you're EXACTLY what I expected you to be in person, from what I perceived of your online persona. Just completely on the ball, and an excellent conversationalist. (I had difficulties choosing between the option I did, and the one underneath...)

You keep shifting those eyes like that, darlin', and I'll start flirting with you in the days of yore.

Ahem.

It's weird. I was surprised that Wednesday companion was surprised; and now I am surprised that you were not surprised.

I don't understand myself at all, I sometimes suspect.

LOL... and once you see this new haircut, you'll be flirting with me even more ;)

We'll see. 10:00 o'clock seems so far away now. I really need to stop waking up at 8:00 o'clock on Saturday mornings after a late night of beer and talk on Friday night.

But new haircut or no, if I do show I'll keep the flirting to a minimum. I don't think your fella would appreciate it.

I don't know about that. Going by my own experience with you (at the risk of sounding even more ego-centric than usual), you're a pretty good judge of character. You may recall, I made no move to take advantage of your situation when we went out for drinks that time.

this is true, and i muchly appreciate it, since i was in such a vulnerable state at the time :)

No worries on deleting the post; I hope you don't mind that I've taken note of the phone-number for future reference.

I've grabbed 'em both, now safely stored in my Gmail address book (the only thing I don't like about Gmail is that very unfriendly beast).

I'm pretty sure I used to have at least the hotmail address and maybe the superflash, but lord knows in which system crash they disappeared.

Feel free to delete the above - we all get too much spam.

Now, off to write certain replies to certain replies. :)

The address book is a pain, especially since I can't get it to open in a separate window. But the email interface is wonderful. (Now to add you to MSN ...)

It is pissing rain, and therefore Nuit Blanche will be a big ol' flop. Hell, I have VIP access (one of the perks for being a wage slave of the presenting sponsor) and I still cannont be bothered. This may or may not have something to do with the fact that I am still in my jammies.

Yes, still.

Ah shit. I switched phone companies (back to Bell, which I'm begining to really regret) and haven't been able to access my voicemail since Wednesday. They re-set the password - or said they would - on Friday and told me it would take 24 hours to start working but it isn't yet. And naturally, their customer service line isn't open on the weekend.

Ahem.

What they (two different support people) told me was that my temporary password would be my phone number without the area code.

My first paragraph, above prompted me to try an experiment. "How's about with the area code, Young Geoffrey?"

Bingo.

My battery lasted just long enough to change the password and to delete 1 message from Bell, telling me they had taken over control of my phone-line.

24 messages(! I don't normally get 25 messages in a month; what's going on?) to go. When the swine is re-charged.

Why would they tell me the password didn't include the area code when it did?!? Don't they have a standard method of operation on these things?

I look forward to hearing your message in an hour or so.

I don't have any Brandy, but I'm sure I could provide some sort of comfort. A number of different teas, for a start.

And unless you're harbouring a Rare Asian Spectacle Bear I don't think allergies would be problematic.

It came in as from "Anonymous". I only just now noticed it and unblocked it.

Which happened to someone else, as well. I think LJ has having some kind of technological break-down. Someone on my MSN list reported getting a renewal notice from LJ every 30 seconds.

I'm afraid I'll have to take a rain-check, unfortunately. I just made plans to go for a drink with someone.

(Okay. I go *weeks* without anything to do on weekends, then in *one* night, three of you are vying for my attention. What is wrong with the world!)

I'm serious about the rain-check though. I'll try not to ask too my naive questions about biology.

No problem on the rain check. My superintendent just brought me a joint to cheer me up, so I can space out with a daydream about Gruff Rhys, who in my dream would be back in Toronto (I missed the June concert) and sans girlfriend. YOU need to get a life? I need to get a life, my friend.

Also, rain check for sure. I'd love to meet you!

I think I tend to assume that anyone on LiveJournal who has above-average writing abilities is somewhat of a loner. That's probably a vestigial sentiment from my fan fic days.

I sure as hell didn't; made me feel like a movie star for the first 5 minutes or so you did.

As for my passion, the truth is, I drink (too much) more than you do. Otherwise, I'm as gentle as a lamb.

(I'm glad you don't mind. And I will give you a buzz in the next day or so. I suspect you need a night out more than I do.)
