There is a line of moral thinking which states that agriculture is actually LESS moral than eating meat because of the number of small mammals that get killed by the machines - mice and rabbits and groundhogs and whatnot. I read an article once that suggested that the MOST moral thing to do would be to eat the biggest creature possible - say, blue whales - to feed the most for the longest with the most minimal loss of life.
