of course I don't remember Ford's presidency, my first conscious memories include Carter and the Oil Embargo.. the Iran Hostage crisis, but in the years since, I have read about Vietnam, Watergate..I have spoken to my parents who were very active protesters during that time, and who had lost countless friends in a war with no purpose.. I fully agree with you that WWII was a war of the Righteous..and we triumphed over evil..it had a purpose..yes, there were atrocities on both sides, but in the end, many people were saved the fate of nearly an entire branch of my family in the gas chambers.. I have no idea how or why this changed.. why the US went from a policy of standing for truth and justice to a policy of naked aggression in areas where we simply had no right or business to be there...and not just in Vietnam, but in Iraq.. twice.. Western values are supposed to comprise of tolerance, of diplomacy...democracy.. not tyranny or despotism.. it seems as if we make war now to have war...kids die so Haliburton can turn a huge profit..
and it seems that the US has also acquired quite the taste for shoving things under the carpet.. look at Reagan's duplicity in the Iran-Contra affair...Dubya's involvement in the WMD fiasco and Hurricane Katrina..
