Don't mistake my parents for hippies, they were a little long in the tooth for that. Both born in '33.
And in fact, both came from political backgrounds.
My paternal grandfather fought for the Reds during the Russian Revolution (he was born in 1899, died in 1996 - the man saw a lot of history! - and my mother's maternal grandparents were Red Finns, who came over to the the States, then Canada, in the early 1900s. (My grandmother wrote a biographical novel about their exprience that I intend to re-work into something publishable one of these days.)
Long story short, both literature and politics seem to run strong in the veins of both sides of my ancestry.
