Memo to Self: Food-Prep 101

Store lettuce in the refrigerator, not with your canned goods for several days in a row.

Dude you should see my freezer.
It's just a block of ice.

I've Been There!

Just for god's sake don't use a knife or a fork to hurry the process along if ever you decide to defrost it! Bad for the fridge, bad for the ozone layer — and bad for you (or your land-lord — or both!).

Had a patch of lettuce in the back yard. Doesn't like heat waves, but you can't beat it compared to store-bought.

Tried to plant a second crop, but the grasshoppers had other plans. Will have to put up a net or something.

Local Produce Good

As an apartment dweller without a balcony, a garden isn't an option for me (well, also, I am not the gardening type, as I know from those years when I had the opportunity), but as a Canadian living in a climate when local fruits and vegetables are very far away from a year-round thing, the difference between, say, peaches picked an hour away and those picked more or less green and shipped from, say, California (no offence), is a wonder to behold!

What *Was* I Thinking?

Seriously, how could I not have noticed what I was putting into that shelf? The bag was transparent and weighed — well, it weighed about what your average head of leaf lettuce (not iceberg!) does: very little.

Reminds me of the (less-destructive) time I stowed away a package of paper towels in me old mum's fridge for some reason.
