It really was a well-written, as well as interesting, piece of work, wasn't it? I hope he finishes Volume Two sometime soon.

If you ever get the chance to see him in concert I strongly recommend it. I've heard his live shows can be a bit of a crap-shoot, but the one I saw a few years back was bloody brilliant.

I did read The Prince a while back, but don't remember it well. As I recall, it's a pretty hard-headed analysis of how to be an effective politician, if not necessarily a moral one. I think the impact on me was reduced simply because I'd read so many references to it, so much of the time I felt like I was re-reading it rather than coming to it for the first time.

Incidentally, I'm immensely gratified by your interest in my old entries. Seeing your comment here in particular this morning did wonders for my morale, which has been rather lousy lately. So, even though I know you're doing it for your own reasons, thank you.
