Who needs Rose Tyler anyway?

Nerd love is being reminded that there was Who Before Davies, and kick-ass companions as well. Also, nerd love is publicly announcing the making of a new icon. The screenshot below from "Remembrance of the Dahleks", episode 152, part 2 (Series 25).

That pretty much sums it up. NuWho has moments where I've loved it ("Blink") and moments where I just want to stab Rusty in the eyes with a fork ("Magic!Jesus!Gollum!Doctor" at the end of Series 3, or the utter shite that was "Fear Her"- at lreast "Gridlock" had Giant Crabs). The Sarah Jane Adventures has been consistently good. Not necessarily original, its covered several of the standard sci-fi plots, but its always done them perfectly well, and none of the companions ever feel more important than another- unlike RTDs apparent obsession with how great Rose Tyler was.

Oi. Don't remind me of season 3!

On the other hand (and yes, to contradict myself), I have this (utterly baseless) feeling that The Sarah Jane Adventures will really hit its stride during the upcoming season, morphing from a better-than-solid children's family show into something really special.

...and none of the companions ever feel more important than another...

Interesting point. I'm not sure that I agree with you, but it feels correct. Must ponder ...
